The Thrifty
organization prides itself on having one of the brightest and most customer-focused
executive teams in the industry today. Thrifty Car Sales president, Jay
Betz, who also serves as Executive Vice President of Fleet for Thrifty,
Inc., has been an integral part of that team since 1989.
Mr. Betz
also spearheaded new business development for Thrifty, culminating in
the development and launch of Thrifty Car Sales, of which he was named
President in early 1999.
He joined
Thrifty Rent-A-Car System, Inc. in 1989 as Controller. In 1993, Mr. Betz
was promoted to Chief Financial Officer of Thrifty. As CFO, he was responsible
for securing fleet financing, upgrading the Company's financial control
systems and better leveraging consolidated volumes in vehicle acquisition.
In 1995,
Mr. Betz was promoted to Executive Vice President, Fleet and Technology,
where he spearheaded innovative new fleet programs that resulted in a
20% increase in fleet. He continues to oversee the acquisition and disposal
of the company's domestic fleet, as well as develop strategies and programs
to encourage maximum participation by Thrifty franchise owners in its
fleet and vehicle supply programs.
Mr. Betz
helped Thrifty realize dramatic improvements in its automation, communication
and information technology systems at Thrifty World Headquarters. Additionally,
he directed further improvements in technology at Thrifty Car Rental retail
outlets, including the use of hand-held check-in units and the development
of a new state-of-the-art proprietary counter automation system called
BlueStar.
Mr. Betz
began his career in 1979, with the public accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand
(now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) where he achieved the level of Audit Manager.
He subsequently joined Reading & Bates, a publicly held offshore drilling
company based in Tulsa, OK in 1985 where he worked as Senior Supervisor
of Financial Reporting and Manager of Accounting. In 1987, he joined Hilti,
Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of construction fastening equipment,
where he served as Plant Controller and in other financial capacities
at the Liechtenstein-based company's Western Hemisphere headquarters in
Tulsa, OK.
Mr. Betz
is a Certified Public Accountant with extensive accounting and finance
experience. He has served on the Tulsa board of the Financial Executive
Institute, a national organization, since 1997. He has a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Oral Roberts University in Business Administration and
Telecommunications.
He completed his accounting and finance studies at the University of Tulsa. |
